I've gone and done it! Kona Stinky 2005 is mine. Looks awesome and 7" of travel is going to mean i'm going to go down lots of fast tracks with no breaks! Can't wait to unleash the beast, possibly on the 28th December between santa coming and hogmanay!

I even tidied my whole flat to accomodate the beast :) one down side, the dad mobile will no longer be a 3man and bike carrying machine, the beast is too big! See it below....
http://www.konabikes.co.uk/2k5bikes/2k5_stinky.php

Question is, who is next?!!! Come on boys, get your crimbo cash out!

PS Spending isn't over, I'm going all bike geeky, next up is a GT Moto 2005, another bargain coming in the new year!

I might have started something here...

After a blinding ride on Sunday there are hints of 'I want a full susser' from several members of Fearingout.

Naming no names look to a Welshman and Scotsman making large capital investments in the New Year - good work lads!

Gwydyr, December 2005. A tired end to a tiring year! We were all on pretty knackered form yesterday, yet it was still a top day's ride. Good chat as always, and even a stunnigly low incident count (no punctures and one minor crash, not me I have to add!).

I was creamed yesterday, really need to get out on the bike more in 2006, night lights should do the trick! I also dont recall Gwydyr being so climb-ey! Maybe I've got red tinted specs for Glentress!

2005 was great, can 2006 get any better? Well, if I can purchase soem Hydraulic brakes so I'm not in fear of brake failure, then hell's yeah! At least I know what to get for Crimbo :)
Gwydwr was awesome - I'll leave the breakdown to others!

The video premiere is re-scheduled for tonight at 7pm - Scott's place. DVD's will be ready later this week (due to a technical issue with the Tesco DVD-Rs!!).

Hope to see you all in 2006!

Thursday, December 08, 2005

I can't wait until Sunday!! Its going to be awesome!

DVD is now at the final stages of production with all menus and artwork complete. Just to edit the interviews and slideshow before burning them ready for the premiere on Sunday.

For those that have asked for one in the post I'll get them sent next week so you should have them by Thursday 15th.

Thursday, December 01, 2005

The bike seems to have taken a back seat of late, in favour of beer :)

Anyway, the two shall combine when we hit the hills of our "hometown, local" track at Gwydyr. That weekend should also see the final preview screening of Mr H's 2005 Blockbuster, "Bloodanddustandmud", over a few beers of course! Looks great, so with the comedy added, will make a good end to 2005 with FO.

To quote a rabbit, "that's all folks".

Thursday, November 24, 2005

Been a bit busy recently so no progress with the DVDs. I will edit the interviews I have by the end of next week, then start DVD design and production the 2nd week in December... so you should all have your copies by Christmas!

Gwydwr is still on for 11th December. See lots of you there hopefully for a big send off to 2005!

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Yeah I missed what looks to have been a pretty awesome ride weather and view wise! We're still to tackle the MBUK route though so that is one for 2006 I'm sure. Thanks to Leo for the ride report.

Following the shooting of 3 more of the interviews last week we had a preview of Episode 5. This is now moving into production and I should have the copies ready for the beginning of December. A trailor will appear on the site shortly so keep checking back.

Soulmusic Issue 17 will be out during December and yet again will feature an article written by our very own Mr Scott Warnock. Once released I'll post a not on here and I should be able to put up a download of just the article shortly after.

Christmas lists are being put together and there is talk in the Fearingout camp about early presents - taking the form of decent lights. Watch this space but chances are we'll be out in the dark before the end of the year!

Industry news, following Steve Peats move from Orange to SantaCruz (reported here last week) its now been confirmed that his clothing company 'Royal Racing' have been bought by protective equipment company '661'. Sounds like good news all round - so watch out for some new lines in 2006.

Think thats all for now - keep your eyes peeled for some minor changes to the site layout over the coming weeks as tweeks are made to usability, and as ever keep comments coming!

Possibly the most picturesque blue sky I've ever seen in November saw myself and James C in the Zetec-S and Phil in the Golf motoring up towards Castleton in the Peak District. All the walkers were out in their fleeces and scarfs, cos quite frankly it was bloomin cold in the shade. Anyway, we parked up by the side of the road and started on the long slog of a climb which is the broken road. Would have been good to ride down, but we elected to continue climbing and made our way on up and round to Mam Tor. The views from the top were breathtaking, with Edale nestling in the valley on one side and Hope Valley on the other. From the top we stopped for a while to watch the paragliders before carrying on riding. Crossing the ridge gave the new forks a good baptism of fire, taking some really chunky rocks at speed, and boy were they good! Next we descended into the valley via a rather technical and steep path, dodging rocks and walkers as we went. The final section was a blast across farmland back into Castleton for a welcome portion of chips! Not the longest ride in the World, but a good bit of fresh air on a Sunday afternoon and undisputably good weather for the time of year if I might say so.

Tuesday, November 08, 2005

Well I'm definitely back into the biking again. After taking a 'sabatical' to get some rowing practice in, I decided that Coed-y-Brenin and the fabled Red Bull trail was tempting enough to get me back onto my two wheeled machine. The long drive deep into Wales was rewarded with some excellent riding in surprisingly pleasant conditions. With the fitness level riding high, the uphills were fairly easy to cope with and the downhills provided a good variety of speed and technical challenge. Got some good filming in for the DVD, including some rather arty shots on the dual course. On the downside I endured a double whammy of bad luck. I had my first puncture in 8 years (is that some sort of record?) and to cap it all off I managed to lose my front wheel (thankfully at low speed), terminally damaging my Rockshox on a nearby rock.

The silver lining in this cloud is that I've just 'forked' out on some new 2006 Marzochi MX Comp ETA's with 105mm of travel (+an extra 25mm when locked out). Looking forward to fitting them, although the complexities of the brake 'post' mounting means that I now need a 205mm brake disc. Shouldn't have any problem stopping now then!

STEVE PEAT SIGNS FOR SANTACRUZ
Hmm big news this folks - following a number of highly successful years with Orange (following the demise of the GT team) Steve Peat, Britains number one DHer will be riding for American bike company Santa Cruz, as part of their syndicate team. He will retain Royal sponsorship however.

Will riding the dominant VPP equiped V-10 bring worldwide domination for the Yorkshire man in 2006 - I don't know but it'll be kick ass finding out!
Well last night saw not only the filming of 3 more of the 6 interviews (4 down - 2 to go) but also a preview screening of Bloodanddustandmud to the assembled members of Fearingout.

To say that the response was overwhelmingly positive would be a massive understatement and it was good to hear that I'd done something pretty special with the editing. Thanks for the props guys.

Still got a few finishing touches to make before the DVDs will be ready - December still on target... Those of you remote from things here can email me and I'll post you a copy (you know my address).

This weekend sees the return to the Peak District with a ride based around Castleton. More of an old school ride then the recent trips to Wales and Scotland but hoping for some good weather, spectacular views and awesome fun down torn up singletrack, bridleways and green lanes.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Over and out.

Monday, October 31, 2005

Well, the Red Bull was awesome. Something really quite different about it, but one things for sure, I loved it! Fewer sections than some trails, but longer, more varied, good technical slow sections, fast flowing sections and jumps!
The drive there was a little wet and we were considering our options at one point, but no fear, it was damp but no longer raining, so we headed up the climb and tbh, none of the climbs are too fierce (apart from that one where we turned the corner to which I yelled "oh you c*nt!). The first singletrack sections were technical, but a refreshing change and knowing the Red bull was a few years old, was good to see it still in good condition.
Onwards and the rocky horror show was awesome. I sped ahead to find a filming spot and went beyond some good spots as I didn't want to stop riding it flowed that well, the ride flowed brilliantly, good air, high speed, the bike working excellently. Did some filming and after that we found a great spot to film where I fell. Quite a good fall, no real injuries, just a slightly bashed knee, but the arm pads did their job, needless to say i didnt have the leg ones on!
After the 2nd puncture of the day, we continued onwards and the whole ride came together very well, a good final descent and overall I was very impressed. After some gooning about on the 4cross track (needs urgent TLC as the berms, jumps and whole track is in a bit of disrepair) we packed up watched our filming and that was the conclusion of Bloodanddustandmud, so really looking forward to seeing that.
Enough ranting....but Coed y Brenin Red Bull style was awesome, as was the drive back, some good pace notes from moi and driving from James 'McRae' Hilton!

I'll keep it short - its late and I'm tired - but what a day! Absolutely amazing.

The drive was lots of fun - the road from Bala to Dolgellau especially, and then arriving at the forest to find the car park machines were out of order was a stroke of luck.
The first climb on the Red Bull is hard work but we were rewarded with some different but definitely great fun singletrack.

Fun all the way round to the dual course at the finish with just one real crash - Mr Warnock not dissappointing and it was caught on camera. The dual course was the only let down of the day but still a good chuckle.

I'll leave the more in depth reports to Scott, Chris and Leo but I had fun - I'm sure they all did - and without a shadow of a doubt I hope its not two years before we go back.

Thursday, October 20, 2005

Aha, the Halfords arguement. To be fair, it is a stunnign generalisation, and there are some decent bikes in there (including your own), but the phrase applies to the "Full suspension system" that you get for a bargain £89. I.e, cheap sh*t bikes!

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Greetings! How is life back up North? This place is full of Southern pansies

Anyway, I thought you might be slightly interested in a rather dubious injury I sustained whilst out mountain biking...According to my physio (yes, I am a bit young to have a private physio) the pains that I have been suffering on and off for the past couple of months that have been getting worse, are a side affect of the left side of my pelvis becoming twisted forward out of alignment. This had culminated in barely being able to walk just before my trip down to uni one night, so I was unable to go out. I'm sure you understand my wholehearted frustration at not being able to go fora few drinks with the lads... After a trip to the doctor, the private physio(due to a waiting period of around 35 years for an NHS one) identified my lop-sidedness. I think he put it back into place, but Im still not without the odd pain in the back, something that has nothing to do with my mum! And what is the cause of this injury, I hear you say?? That bloody fall in Gwydyr that buckled my front wheel! I think... That is the only thing that happened that could perhaps be attributed to the injury. And although it may not look as impressive as some of the scars that Mr Warnock in particular sports, I think I could say that it is an injury to rival many of yours!
This was a good few months ago now, and still im not better. According to my new college physio, I should sit up straight. This will then solve all my problems and worries about not being able to play sport properly etc. I have heard a roumer that she isnt very good though...

Ok, enough ranting now, as I'm sure you're all very annoyed that I've torn you away from your work. Hope the new jobs/bike parts/wife are all living upto expectations - uni certainly is! Got a big room, good floor mates and apparently a much higher than average spread of good looking girlies for a college intake. :D
Not managed to find much in the way of bike action, apart from overtaking a roadie on a granny foldup bike! Apparently theres a hill somewhere in Cambridge too, although Ive yet to find it. I have a feeling that it will be as wet as Llandegla.
Wait until you ride Coed-y-brenin, Gwydwr or even better Glentress in the New Year, Andy, then you'll know what we mean...

As for the Halfords bikes, I'll leave Scott to defend that one!
Cheers for the trip on Sunday. I think you are all being a bit harsh, as James says it was my first trip on a purpose built track, but I really enjoyed it (except the bit where I went over the handlebars).

No permanent damage to either me or the bike so all's well that ends well. Looking forward to my next trip.

P.S. Oi Airman, what's wrong with Halfords bikes!!!

Monday, October 17, 2005

What does Llandegla and lettuce have in common? No, not that rabbits like them, but WET, lettuce is wet, Llandegla is wet. Wet sums up what riding round Llandegla feels like, not that I'm mumping about the mud, after all it is an outdoor sport.
The riding itself was a bit wet. Uphill for a while, down for 10 seconds, up, up a bit more, down a little bit, a jump into a berm, up, some DJ style jumps 2 metres after an uphill climb. WTF is going on. It's clearly built for families/Halfords bikes, so without being rude, it was 'Wet'. You could replace that word for many other words, but I'm trying not to swear so much these days.
Even the DH 'extreme' black route was bit 'wet'. Decent, verging on really good, but lasted about 20 secs. I think families will love it, but despite my bulging waistline, I'll never be called a family!
ring on the next venture to Wales.
Llandegla
Well what can I say?

I think its fair to say 3 of the 4 of us felt let down. It was Andy's first trip outside of Macc with us so he had no expectations, however the rest of us were expecting something good and unfortunately Llandegla never delivered.

Main points:
1) Trail surface
Nice and smooth most of the time - however here lies the problem! The feeling that is was aimed at perhaps Joe Public rather then more experienced riders?
2) Trail routes
Very bad use of the gradient - you'd get 20 seconds of awesome berms and jumps and then it would either stop all together or the line would be wrong so you had to scrub a load of speed to avoid an accident. NO FLOW whatsoever.

I think the fact it is advertised as a RED ROUTE is trying to cash in on Glentress. Whereas Glentress's red route is challenging, fun and full of flow - Llandegla certainly is not.

The only saving grace is that the BLACK ROUTE, a short DH/freeeeeee-ride section was great fun but again petered out. The centre needs more of this type of riding if it is to advertise itself to the young 'freeride' aggressive XC riding market. Cashing it not only leaves everyone dissappointed, but also means that the centre stands to put off (or worse in some cases - scare off) a lot of beginners.

I'm not sure that anything can be done. Riders should have been consulted from the start. The idea of the place is spot on, the vibe is also great - however the trails did not match this and unfortunately I doubt any remedial action from now can make much difference.

I can say one thing - we won't be back*

(*unless they build a few more black runs)

Monday, October 10, 2005

Just to confirm - rides until Christmas are as follows:

16th Oct Llandegla
30th Oct Coedybrenin
13th Nov Castleton
11th Dec Gwydwr

Nannerch is to close?
Big news over on the Dirt and Singletrack websites as well as Homegrownpushbikes.

Bad news for roots downhill riding - Nannerch was the first course we ever visited as a group way back in April 2003 - but positive sounds from Forestry Commission Wales mean that good things may happen elsewhere... which does give you inspiration that there are people out there who are on the riders side.

No riding today - rain rain rain and hangovers. Looking forward to Llandegla next Sunday more than ever.

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

Anyone up for a ride on Saturday morning? Scott and I are planning on heading out ahead of the big ride the weekend after. Text/Email me if you're up for it.

Monday, October 03, 2005

So what do you think? This is the new look Fearingout and don't worry, we won't be going anywhere again soon! Gone are the tons and tons of fairly average ride photos - we'll still have regular Wednesday rides (season and weather permitting) - just there won't be photos unless something cool happens.

However, the idea is the new site has more a magazine feel, with a sort of mini write up of our trips further afield... oh and also fewer but better photos.

The winter does slow things up, but there are plans to ride Llandegla, Coed-y-brenin, Castleton and Gwydwr all again before we see in the new year. The DVD will be top quality and is due out before Christmas - let me know if you want a copy.

So lets keep this thing working shall we. Here's to the future...

Saturday, August 27, 2005

JEALOUSY! Wish I was there in bonny Scotland, but then again I probably wouldn't have made it back without a trip to the hospital. (If they have them up there yet)
Keep me posted on the April trip, and I'll look forward to seeing footage on the DVD.

Glentress weekender: my report...

Fresh back from 4 days at the UK's premier riding location and I thought I'd write up a little diary for those of you that missed out on all the fun!

Friday 12th August
Well we set off at the crack of dawn (for a day off!) at 9am in Jeff's white P-reg 1.9 NON TURBO diesel van and made slow but steady progress to the M6. After being ass-raped for diesel (over £55 to fill her up) we slogged up the M6 towards the border. Never ceased to be amazed at the distance beyond Gretna that we have to go! For future reference a 1.9 Transit will not go faster then 80mph AT ALL. Thats it - its terminal velocity. I reckon if you dropped it from a plane you'd struggle to get upto 82mph.

Arrived in Peebles about 1.30ish - good going after a short stop on the motorway - and headed straight to Glentress. After a cheeky abandoning of the van outside the Hub shop for filling theCamelbaks we drove up the the top car park for the first ride of the weekend.
After a moments deliberation, well not even that really! we decided on the red route so after a quick unloading off Scott and I went on what many describe as being the best man-made trail in the country. I think both Mr Warnock and myself would whole heartedly agree! Its a bitch of a climb to the top (not as bad as Innerleithen - more of that later) but the infamous Spooky Woods descent is amazing. To quote Scott "I'd pay for that before I'd pay for sex". Full of berms, jumps, rock steps and more it is just full on, fast and scarily fun. Onwards and few more classic singletrack descents we made it back in one piece.

Heading off to Somerfield (more lesbians there then last time I'm sure) we stocked up on the essentials - pies and Ribena! Shock horror they had run out of Scotch Eggs - mind you that was probably a good thing as the tent smelt bad enough in the morning anyway.
The campsite - Rosetta - where Scott had stayed as a 'wee-lad' was well situated with a short stroll to town, good views and decent facilities (showers, pool and TV rooms plus its own bar!). First night we went for the firm favourite from last March and a burger from the Niedpath Inn - quality food at bargain prices - the burger is AWESOME. Then on for a couple of beers at our other favourite - the County Inn. Quality pub - shame about the music!

Saturday 13th August
Woken to the sound of drizzle - nice - and not much sleep sharing a double air bed mattress with Mr Warnock - but the all day breakfast sandwiches from Somerfield sorted us out. Off to Innerleithen to ride the newly finished Traquair XC loop.

Getting their was a problem as its not sign posted from the town but we did find it fairly easily. The carpark was buzzing with DHers on the uplift day - the famous Red Bull project DH was finished earlier in the year and is apparently awesome. Unfortunately we ran out of time and money to try these later in the weekend.

After a quick scout about we started the loop - and it starts with a killer climb. After about an hour of slogging up single and double track you get to a traverse of the mountain which is fun but pedally. Then the more bermy quarry which was a lot of fun. From there is the monster climb upto the high point (550m from the start) at Mynch moor. What a view from here. The singletrack descent started poorly but got quick once in the tree line. After some 'enduro' (read easy but deadly fast) singletrack descents we were caught in a bit of a down pour on the first 'black' section of the loop. Oh well. To be honest in the dry it would have been totally rideable but in the wet it was slow and dull. Didn't think we could get any wetter but we did as the heavens opened between there and the final downhill - Caddon Bank.
This is apparently a XC decent built by a DHer - therefore it has massive rock steps - too wet and scary to ride on our visit - and ace bombhole whoops. A lot of fun. Unfortunately for Scott this was also the scene of his first BIG crash - he took a dodgy line down one of the drops and came off hard carving a few gouges in his arm and ripping his shorts. Lucky we carry a first aid kit as I patched him up for the rest of the descent but that put pay to plans for more riding that day.

After a quick kip at the campsite and another meal in the Niedpath Inn we waited at the campsite for Chris to arrive, before having a few beers in the on-site bar.

Sunday 14th August
Another morning of drizzle but it dried quickly - and more All-day breakfast sandwiches.

Back to Glentress where the three of us met 2 of Scott's mates - another Scott and Kahl. No discussion this time - definitely the red route again! This time around we did Spooky Woods twice. The second time down was the quickest I've ever ridden and the flying Scotsman was really flying down the jumps.Following into the fast flowing singletrack Scott had his second big accident of the weekend - a very fast crash sent him down hard - he travelled at least 5m further then his bike - and this time damaged his other elbow. Completely covered himself in mud too! Not looking good we patched it up again but he promised he'd go easy - yeah right! We enjoyed the rest of the ride and then onto the Hub cafe for some grub! What a vibe that place had - the sun came out and it was rammed with all sorts of riders all enjoying top quality food!

After a quick scrub up at the campsite we moved onto town and had a curry at the Prince of India - Peeble's finest Indian restaurant. Chris and Scott both sweated it out over Balti Tandoori Chicken and Lamb respectively - props to them - however I pussyed out with a nice flavoursome but mild Tikka-masallam. Then onto the County Inn again for more Tennants and reminiscing about the days riding. Good chat. Also good crack with the bar staff over the quality of the music. Why isn't there a place like that in Macclesfield!

Monday 15th August
After a solid nights sleep and a couple of trips to the bathroom we were ready for another days riding - well perhaps not day - 60 odd kms under the belt already were taking their tole.

Red route again and we were underway by 10ish. The weather was find and we made Spooky Woods in good time. First ride down was interspersed with filming for the annual DVD - got some great footage. Back up for an uninterupted second go and Scott's last big crash as he took the second of top rock jumps slightly to wide and took it hard. Only a little graze this time but still spitting mud. The rest of the ride was uneventful but in the drying conditions both Scott and Chris were a little uneasy on the loose surfaces of the lower singletrack.

After a bite to eat at the Hub and getting raped again for diesel we headed for home, tired but happy with enough memories to last until next time - anyone for April 2006!?

Well I've gone now... six weeks with no work. Great!
Wednesday was a good send off. Felt good on the bike, so definately made the most of it. I'll be looking forward to raising my skills to the kerb riding with a treat of a step or two coming up in the next year. It does appear that Cambridge just won't be made for mountain biking.
See you all in June...

Thursday, August 11, 2005

I thought we had a very rapid evening, the pace was kept up by all. Charity Lane was eaten alive, and everyone was getting pretty impressive track times on the last run. Really enjoyed my new bike, although the phone calls from the letting agency asking why i have no money to pay rent itsn't so cool.
Well looking forward to the next ride.....
Yep cheers lads had a good time, and i thought bikes were just for children. Only the third time out on the bike and no major pain involved. Nothing as embarrasing as putting on the helmet backward in the shop or going over the handlebars twice in the first 20mins of riding by pulling the front break instead of the back one, (second time involved a rather fast fall down a rather steep hill, thus I learnt quickly, always more on the back break grimes!)

Looking forward to some more fun and games over my remaining weeks.

Wednesday, August 10, 2005

Cool well it was James's last ride with us tonight and he went out with some style - blistering pace up their with Mr Warnock all night - god knows what would happen if you gave those two full-sussers!

Charity Lane took a beating - both Ben and I enjoying the new bikes. Ian joined us and had fun - personally I think he progressed very quickly and props for riding having not ridden since his paper-round!

To quote Ben "Its a lot stiffer when its up then when its down".

Glentress on Friday. To quote Mr Warnock "Take me home"!!!

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

So I'm in Chester updating this on dial-up - god I'd forgotten how slow it is! Another ride next wednesday - officially James M's last ride of the summer. Then Glentress... TAKE ME HOME!

Friday, July 29, 2005

This weekend's ride (officially my birthday ride) is off!

The Glentress weekend will become my official birthday ride now - bit more deserving then a jaunt around Macclesfield Forest!

Roll on 12th August!

Tuesday, July 26, 2005

Well my stag do the weekend before last meant we didn't ride last wednesday - everyone was still shattered and in no fit state to ride a bike! Scott injured his ankle pretty badly too so that has been on the mend - just about ok to ride on as we speak.

Scott's bike has also undergone a drivetrain transformation with a bling bling super stiff crankset, new chain and cassette - so no excuses this week and coming weekend.

Saturday is officially my birthday ride and so we're either riding Coed-y-brenin, Gwydwr, Moel Famau, Delamere or Macclesfield Forest depending on timing (I'm at the wedding venue on Saturday morning making some last minute arrangements).

The Glentress trip is sounding like its going to be absolutely awesome! 4 of us now as Mike (the chap who came along to the Lakes last september) is also coming up - and promised he's a bit fitter! We don't care anyway Mike as it's all about the down!

It works! It works!! Woohoo!
Ok, first try at posting on here didn't work too well. Think I've found the right links now though...

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Well we're now on a new blog-service provider - Fearingout is now brought to you in association with Blogger.com. Our old site was hosted with Crimsonblog and after the ability to add new users dissappeared a few months ago we started looking elsewhere. Unfortunately we've not managed to produce a custom solution and this week Crimsonblog stopped allowing us to add new posts I had to look seriously elsewhere.

So we're on Blogger. There are a few technical differences so bear with us for a few weeks whilst I fudge them!

Anyway, big news:

GLENTRESS TRIP - 12th to 15th August 2005
Chris, Scott and I are confirmed.

This week we'll be working on Phase 2 of the trail - since we got so much done last week. Filming the week after. Thats all for now.

The Crimsonblog archive...

Monday, February 21, 2005
Great trip to the Wirral, the sun was out, I was hangover free, so I was well up for it. A bit of a trek to get to the fun parts got the lungs working and warmed things up a bit, but it was all worth it when we got to the first set of jumps. A good little mix of track and jumps kept us entertained for about ½ hour and some of the locals gave us a bit of a demo on their dirt boards (or whatever you call them), looked ok but I think I’ll stick with MTBing.
The best and scariest part of the day was the sandstone jumps, it looked pretty harsh, but when Tez nailed it first time, I thought it was certainly worth a crash at the bottom just for the buzz of launching myself off the top. Having asked for a few pointers from the rest of the gang, I didn’t think about the details too much as I knew any type of rational thought at this time would seriously jeopardise me even making an attempt. Having built up the correct speed, I pulled the front end up as I went over the edge, but didn’t quite have the correct positioning on the landing. Having hit the ground with a bit of a thump I was still on two wheels but my seat wasn’t as low as it could be (basic school boy error). The sensation of one of my nads sliding the full width on my seat before desperately popping out the other side before critical bursting pressure was reached is an interesting if not very pleasant feeling and not one I wish to repeat too often. Having learnt my lesson the hard way, I did whatever sensible person would do, I lowered my seat to the correct position and gave it another go. The second time around everything was pretty sweet, but to ensure that it wasn’t just a fluke I thought I’d nail it just one more time. After numerous close encounters with the surrounding vegetation later, including an excellent crowd pleasing head over the handle bars into the bushes, I manage to achieve a second good landing.
The final part of the day spent in the bomb crater, rounded the day off perfectly, everyone was getting some great air and to the delight of the crowd, Tez manage to clear the table top jump. The ride back along the disused rail track pushed by fitness levels, were as I don’t think James C broken into a sweat, however I can only improve.
I am gutted that I won’t be around for Edale, but I am sure there will be plenty more trips to come.

not that i'm picky, but james stopped 3 times!  the road climb killed and we were mocked by 2 spandex/lycra clad XC gimps up that very hill as they zoomed past us.  However, I had the last laugh as I reached the top I saw them hang left and down the road, thus avoiding the canyon de charity!  It has gotten pretty rough, but despite the questioning of my sexuality due to the new shades, I made it down just as fast as ever, possibly faster, as I can now aim my front wheel in the rain/dirt soaked descent, thus enabling faster, puncture-less (touch wood) riding.
but it was damn wet and rain soaked clothes stuck to your body are not nice.  still, its a man's sport innit! grrr, feel the testosterone flowing, grrrr!  Didnt even get to really test the mule, but it felt good, not that I needed the water!

How cold?

I don't think I've been that cold for years - just got back from a few hours in Macc forest and we've gone from wet but sunny to windy to misty to hardcore rain and wind so strong you have to pedal downhill!

A good ride, well I enjoyed it. Bring on the Wirral (next weekend?)

Should have been an amazing ride but with James and Terry turning up late and the sky dark as thunder perhaps we should have known. After the first stop for photos of the ride Scott nails his tyre and after fixing six holes we gave up. The lightweight tube we got from a passing XC jey boy wasn't up to Scott's riding and after the following first section of singletrack he managed to rip a huge hole. Game over.
Onwards and it was drying up before Tez got a huge dagger shaped rock through his tyre. A little easier to fix and we were on our way but it felt like the ride was jaded a little. Onwards and tiring we lost James C as he broke away from the front and headed non-stop for home. As Tez, Chris and I started the final descent we were all shattered but by the bottom smiles had been re-instated.
Look forward to a leisurely ride in Macc Forest this weekend. Bad-luck for Mr Warnock but we'll be back!

no big stories today.  punctures suck.  6 punctured holes really suck.  gwydr rocks. having to walk off the track and 2 miles back to your car really sucks.  solution.....really thick walled inner tubes and making sure you have spare tubes to the max. just purhcased a mule, so needless to say all my storage will be used up with tubes from now on!  still a good trip though.

Hey hey - new brakes! Scott and I went into Royle (Wilmslow) on Saturday and I'm now the proud owner of a set of Hope mini monos. So today was their bedding in ride and boy do they rule. So so so so so so progressive. You feel in complete control.

Anyway Leo and Chris joined me for a quick 2 hour blast around the forest doing the now favourite Sunday route. Chris seriously suffering with a hangover did well to get round and Leo's baptism of fire on the wettest and slippiest I've seen Charity Lane for a while.

Plans for rides up until Easter will be announced this week. Hi-lights include a trip to Glentress and one to Afan in South Wales, and even Edale. Good stuff - keep an eye on the front page.

Well Sunday was a good ride again - definitely the last before Christmas and possibly the last of 2004. Fun and games in the ice and sunshine in Macclesfield Forest, a fitting end to the year.

Well it has to be said that when we set out at the beginning of the year no one thought we'd become organised enough to plan proper regular rides, a series of summer outings and even a weekend away. The year saw newcomer Scott well and truly christened and even introduced Phil and Leo towards the close. It also saw new bikes for Chris and myself and a general progression in both ability and fitness as the summer went on.

It also marked the fourth DVD release. Good comments for all and we're looking forward to more of the same next year.

So what will 2005 bring? Well early plans hoped for Whistler but now Chamonix is looking more affordable. Still a fantastic venue so lets keep the dreams alive. A trip to Glentress in the spring and no doubt many more visits to the fantastic Gwydwr. Coed-y-brenin at New Year (again) should blow of the cob-webs. Trips to Delamere will break up the regular Macc Forest rides which will continue and we must make the effort to get over to Leeds to ride with Terry... and explore the options for Leeds street!?

Thanks for all the support throughout the year. I have had a fantastic time and feel so alive and positive when I'm riding and that is mainly due to riding with a bunch of fantastic people who are all in it for the same reasons. Have a fantastic Christmas and we'll all be together in January to try out those new parts... Over and out.

yesterday was a good winters jaunt.  despite the effort from us both, we were feckin cold, so once back at james, it was straight home for a coffee.  the bike is now gleaming and wrapped up for winter tho, maybe i'll not buy a new bike yet!
ride-wise it was good to get out again and i was happy with my fitness, james' poor lungs struggled to cope tho!  once at charity lane it was all fun downhill and i even managed to stay ahead of motocrossers, yeehar!  then again, i seemed to gain a puncture (front wheel, weird!).
from there we hit teg's nose and the annoying filled in trail has to be a negative move for bikers, but good for horsey c*nts.  then again, we had a good mud-filled ride as shown by the photos.  have to say, if ever a photo was made for "does my bum look big in this photo" comment, it has to be that one of me going down the steps.  and by the way, the answer is NO!  And yeah, nice hairdo in the last shot, love it!

Good ride this afternoon - cold and wet but fun. Did the now favourite Sunday route up Charity Lane, back down Chris's Trail and then over to Tegg's Nose. Scott and I both hammered the downs as hard as we could but struggled with the cold air on the climbs. My bike felt so so good - and only two TINY TINY TINY snake bites for Scott on the rockiest Charity Lane has ever been.

Polite walkers and no rain. A winter first?

If anyone is interested in a nice full susser at a bargain price (includes fox forks and hope discs / hubs) then check out this link.  The bike is a Specialized Epic, priced at £875.  It might just be your perfect partner . . .

I must take issue with the lycra ban.  Have none of you seen the Eric Prydz video?  The ban should only apply to men and 'larger' ladies.  In fact, as well as enforcing said ban, I think we should be actively encouraging lycra clad ladies to join in on our outdoor frolics. . . . It may even slow our Jimbo down a bit . . . . It would be silly to overtake a lady in lycra . . .

Gwydr in the winter sunshine, perfect conditions if you ask me. a bit of bite in the air, and on the trails, yesterday was awesome.  A good 'clan' of riders and we had a good laugh and I loved every minute.  Struggled for fitness on the ups, but rocked on the downs.  Even found time for a quick fall!  Not a better remedy than getting back up and trying the same jump again!  We all got some pretty decent 'air' yesterday, Tez's skills must be rubbing off, tho me and my Gaelic cousin Phil seem to be united with the gun-ho, balls-of-steel, as fast as possible approach to everything!
Sorry about the rock btw, it had to be moved!
Bring on the next Gwydr trip, I think its my 2nd home! Maybe we can model our track on the best of Gwydr?
And who said talk of FS bikes was put away, i'm still 'Stinky' dreaming!

I know there is going to be a lot of Gwydwr cock sucking tomorrow when the boys get a chance to update but hot of the press todays ride absolutely ruled.

Thanks to Phil and Leo for joining James C, Tezbo, Scott and I. I think that has to be best ride there yet... we really all pushed ourselves hard and got some wicked photos.

Next ride in a fortnight will be Macclesfield Forest - meeting at 12.30pm at my place.

Cheers.

It was the 'premiere' of Community this evening and it got a pretty good welcome by Scott, Chris, Jimbo and new recruit Leo. Will be putting them into production this week so expect your copies by the end of next week boys!

Also watched the Collective too this evening - it absolutely rocks - the North Shore sections are insane and some of the riding is beyond words.

BIG NEWS - Whistler TripEstimated cost = £800 (+food)

Scott and I are up for it - but no one else? Come on guys pull your fingers out - it's a once in a lifetime type holiday as well as officially my 'stag do'.

Not the last you'll hear about it either...

no need to big-up gwydyr (how d'ya spell it?) anymore than has been done already...oh go on then...absolutely crackin place basically because of the variety of terrain on offer....great fun jumpin at the end too...which brings me neatly to the photo caption....its a shame mr hilton didn't capture the 2 or 3 perfect (well almost) landings performed previous to the pictured skewed/veered landing! no-one would have known i didn't nail the landing if Hilton hadn't added the comment!!!!! darn

YES YES YES!  Gwydyr is top.  Check out our-bad-selves on the jumps!  When are we going back?  Could have spent hours on the jumps near the end.
Important information for any budding mountain biker: Anyone who likes their bacon (to stay inside them) should also take not of the following ancient chinese proverb:  mus-not-ave-two-breakfas-n-chocolat-'fore-go-ridin!
Thank you please . . . .
